Help your family by doing a simple energy check-up on your house.

• Does the water heater have an insulation blanket added? Are the water pipes connected to it insulated too?.



• Ask a parent how much insulation is in the attic. There should be 10 to 12 inches deep of batting or loose fill insulation..



• How good are seals around the edges and bottoms of outside doors?



• How many of the lighting fixtures and lamps use fluorescent bulbs?



• Is the thermostat a programmable model? Learn how to program it with your parents' help.



• How hot is the hot water? Get a temperature checking card from the Columbus Public Library, City Hall or Columbus Water & Light office.
